Why give away music?

the first woodsmen lineup included jake lackey on keys, hollis molloy on bass, andy power on drums and dylan halberg on vocals and guitar.  this was around 2001. eventually, andy power was replaced by jamey nelson, and then hollis was replaced by matt weirauch.  in 2003, these chaps headed into Gadgetbox Studios and brought out their first album, Black Hair.  they returned to the same studio not long after to begin their second, Amethyst Deceiver.  this album saw delays in post-production and was not released for a year and a half. in the meantime, the woodsmen recorded their first live album at Ridgetop Sound, entitled Ridgetop Session (fall 2004).  during this time, they also recorded the first album that would come out of their lo-fi portable studio (the laboratory of the inevitable)- Fancy Bread (summer 2004).  the band then joined forces with guitarist Chris Foss and headed to a new studio for their first analog recording. the album to come out of this session was entitled Get Out Of Here Alive, recorded live at Guerilla Studios in Oakland (spring 2005). after the release of Amethyst Deceiver, the band briefly parted ways and later reformed with Jim Frink on drums.  Lunch Bag was the final recording with the halberg/lackey/ nelson/ weirauch/foss lineup, recorded live at Ridgetop Sound in the summer of 2005. the woodsmen began working on a new album in the spring of 2006, culminating in the release of Thank You (winter 2006).  it was during this time that the Laboratory of the Inevitable released 60% of What's Happening.  in february 2007, the woodsmen began working on the songs for Rubbish, an album that would be recorded later that year in oakland under the supervision of myles boisen at guerilla studios.  the band at that time consisted of jake- keys, matt- bass, frink- drums, dylan- vocals.  in september, the Lab put out The Clutch (fall 2007), followed by the release of Rubbish in february of 2008.
